GOSHAVANQ
GOSHAVANQ

It is an Armenian religious structure on the edge of the village of Gosh, Tavush region, on the right bank of the Getik River. It was one of the major medieval religious, educational and cultural centers. In 1188, it was founded by Mkhitar Gosh near the Getik monastery destroyed by the earthquake and moved the congregation here. It was founded with the support of Prince Ivane Zakaryan. Such figures as Vanakan Vardapet and Kirakos Gandzaketsi studied here. At first it was named Nor Getik. After the death of Mkhitar Gosh (1213), it will be called Goshavank.

The Goshavank monastery complex, which was considered the princely monastery of the Zakaryans for a long time, was sold by the Zakaryans to Mr. Umek, who arrived in Armenia from Karin, in the 13th century.

Goshavank was formed as a monastic complex in the 12th-13th centuries, as most of the buildings were built in that period. The monastery complex consists of the ancient St. From Astvatsatsin Church, from the clock, St. Grigor and Lusavorich churches, the bell tower, St. From the Hripsime small church, from the buildings intended for Mkhitar Gosh, also from his mausoleum.

The monastic complex was not fenced, but all structures were built next to each other, except St. From Hripsime Church. It is located on a small hill in front of the complex, separated from the main building of Goshavank.
